Bug Report: Ovid Databases and Norton Internet Security The following report was issued by the California Digital Library on March 31, 2003. |
Affected users: Users with Norton Internet Security installed and running on their computers searching the Ovid databases via the Web interface (e.g., BIOSIS, CINAHL, Current Contents, INSPEC). This does not affect users with only the antivirus component installed, and it is not known to be a problem with other database vendors. |
What the user sees: OVID users with Norton Internet Security get blank pages (only head and body begin and end tags) when they enter a search term in the initial search screen and click the PERFORM SEARCH button. |
Why it happens: The behavior occurs due to a bug with Norton Internet Security. |
What to do about it: Norton is aware of the issue and is creating a patch. In the interim, the work-around is to disable Norton while searching Ovid. |
