MLA CE Course: Molecular Biology Information Resources

November 8, 2001

This course is now full.

The UCSD Biomedical Library is pleased to sponsor the MLA CE Course, Molecular Biology Information Resources, to be taught by Eugenia Posey Marcos, biologists on the User Services staff of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).

This free, full-day course for librarians, provides an introduction to four domains of information generated by the field of molecular biology:

  • nucleotide sequences
  • protein sequences
  • three-dimensional structures
  • complete genomes and maps

Emphasizing the search systems available at the NCBI, particularly Entrez and BLAST, this course will address how your current search skills apply to molecular biology databases. The course concludes with a discussion of various levels of molecular biology information services provided by librarians.

This course has been approved for eight continuing education credit hours by the Medical Library Association. (Course Website)
