The SIO Office of the Director manages administration of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, including personnel, graduate education, research, facilities, ships, and funding. The directors of Scripps Institution of Oceanography while these records were kept were Fred Noel Spiess, 1964-1965; William Aaron Nierenberg, 1965-1985; Edward Allen Frieman, 1986-1996; Charles Frederick Kennel, 1997-2006; and Tony Haymet, 2006-2011.
